Things written on the back of used dockets during lulls in the stream of customers at Pak n Save (iv)

January 13, 2012

Potatoes potatoes Potatoes!

Oh glorious tubers

small unassuming babies of mud and sunshine

lumpy and unelegant

scattering dirt all over my checkout.

the smell of you,

of pungent fresh earth

amongst Supermarket

is a small orgasm in my head

Ha! fuck them!

They haven’t sterilised you yet

And besides

no amount of packaging

could ever convince me

that you didn’t come

from the ground. nourished

by faeces and small deaths

and the steady seeping

of the rain.

  1. You were not at Pak n’ Save when you wrote this! Liar. But it is beautiful.
